Permaculture Design Basics
Permaculture design has at its foundation three ethics: care for the earth, care for the people, and reinvesting the surplus. It is guided by several principles of design, all of which are universally applicable:
- Observe and interact.
- Catch and store energy.
- Each element performs multiple functions.
- Each function is supported by multiple elements.
- Apply self-regulation and accept feedback.
- Utilize and value renewable resources and services.
- Produce no waste.
- Obtain a yield.
- Design from patterns, to details.
- Integrate, rather than segregate.
- Use small and slow solutions.
- Use and value diversity.
- Optimize edge.
- Creatively use and respond to change.
